Mother's Day Weekend | A Local Guide

Mother's Day Weekend | A Local Guide

Mother’s Day. It might be a time to celebrate the beautiful women in your life, to remember special individuals or it may just be a time to pause and unwind. Whatever the meaning, we think everyone is deserving of a few leisurely days – which is why we’ve planned the perfect Mother’s Day Weekend in Albury & Rutherglen.

You can expect a forecast of mostly sunny, little chance of rain and a top of 19 degrees. So here’s hoping there will be some stunning Autumn weather to match the mood.

Rise and shine for an early start to avoid missing out on the freshest goods that Albury/Wodonga has to offer.

Pick up a bunch of posies from our friends at Thistle and Fern to gift someone special or treat yourself. To keep with the shopping theme, we think a trip to the Albury Wodonga Farmers Market and a wander in the fresh country air will make for a wholesome morning. Stock up for the week or spoil yourself and your loved ones with hot coffee and delicious pastries, amongst many other wonderful goodies on offer.

Enjoy a day outdoors and make the most of Albury’s spectacular views and hidden hiking trails. A haven for some of the region’s rare flora and fauna, Nail Can Hill offers extensive bushland and a flawless natural setting for walking, running or mountain biking. Mother’s Day is the perfect weekend to spend outside before the winter months set in.

If the weather calls for it – a picnic lunch might just be the dream Saturday/Sunday setup. Set up by picturesque Lake Hume or under the leafy trees of Albury’s Noreuil Park. What's a picnic without a loaf of European inspired artisan sourdough in the basket. Pick up yours from Valentines Bakehouse in Rutherglen. It’s also an ideal time to stock up on olives, jams and other produce from Savoy Truffle Co who are popping up in town for the weekend. Of course, a local wine from the renowned Rutherglen region is an essential, so we suggest a visit to The Lane Cellars to select a bottle (or brew) from the experts. (You can’t beat our favourite bottle of Scion Viognier).

If your preference is for indoor activities then prioritise a trip to De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate where their cellar door complex houses a gorgeous commercial art gallery. Taste your way through the De Bortoli wine collection and enjoy access to The Aboriginal Exhibitions Gallery - a unique joint venture with Australian Aboriginal art collector, Hans Sip.

For the avid shoppers, a little retail therapy is a wonderful example of a great local activity to enjoy with company. Support our regional traders along the main streets of Albury and Rutherglen by purchasing a few keepsakes to take home. From plants to books and vintage treasures. Don't forget to step inside a beautiful little shop called Tutto Bello, we hear it is divine... Visit us at our Rutherglen and Albury stores and let us style you in our new Autumn arrivals!

There’s nothing like a long Sunday lunch, especially when it involves three courses and sparkling wine on arrival. Reserve your table at the Tuileries Restaurant this Mother’s Day and enjoy a memorable set menu surrounded by your favourite people. No doubt everyone in town has heard the word, so we suggest you make your booking quickly!

If you're after something a little more flexible - then Rutherglen's James & Co Wines just happen to house a bit of everything yummy. Relax, pull up a seat, and select from a wide range of cellar door produce to nibble and sip on. (Disclaimer: if pizza and music make your heart sing, join the James & Co team on Saturday instead, they'll be celebrating their Birthday Palooza and have promised good vibes!)
